Well, I did it. I broke off an easy-out in the exhaust manifold stud.
Now what??

I'm mad, sad, pissed, and frustrated.
I did everything I was supposed to do, and it didn't work.
I bought left-handed bits and started small. But none of them
"caught" the stud. So I drilled the proper size hole for a
#2 easy-out, and proceded to turn it. POP. It broke.

Do I have any viable options?
The easiest is to not repair and replace the studs.
Heck, it worked for years with the broken stud.

Send the head out to the machine shop. And if your gonna do that send both and spring for rebuilding them, milled(boosts compression), 3 angle valve job(improves flow), and port matched to the new gaskets(Improves flow). Gasket match the intake manifold too..(improves flow) yeah it'll cost you, but now you got a good excuse to do it. and you'll be happy with the boost in performance.......... That's what I'd do...$$$$$

Sounds nice, but the Dak is the only vehicle I have.
And I don't want to spend the money.

Thanks

the other thing you can do is drill out the stud along with the broken easy-out.... use a drill bit the same size as the bolt thenuse a thread chaser to clean up the threads and you should be good...

You are not going to simply drill out an easy-out. They are hardened just like a tap. It will require a carbide drill which breaks even easier then the easy-out. The only other option is to burn it out with EDM or similar device. You might also try breaking the easy-out into little pieces and then try again. Sometimes they are not quite as hard as taps and don't fracture easily. Removing the head is the easiest way and be done in a day. Good luck.

Thanks guys.

That easy-out broke in a jagged, point. So there is no way I could keep a drill bit steady without some type of jig.

I might be able to break it up.

Thanks again

I was putting the manifolds back on, and you guessed it. Another stud broke off.
It's off to the shop I go...
