Fiberglass or aluminum tis the question? I tow my 16 1/2 foot aluminum crestliner 55 with od off. I got 3.92 rear and that still seems like quite a bit. 70 On the interstate would be pushing it definetly. Seems like a 20 foot boat would be out of the question on the interstate. Especially if its glass...

I routinely tow a 17-ft. monster of a '78 fiberglass ski boat, back when fiberglass was a novelty so they laid it on thick. Got a 2000 3.9L QC 2WD with the auto trans. and have no trouble pulling, launching, or landing the boat. Give yourself room to stop and you probably won't either. A tip from personal experience pulling boats out with m/t: tires are cheaper than clutches. Let 'er rip.

OK, dirt bag. Laugh. But my brother towed his 22' Catalina sailboat from FL to CA in his Dakota with 3.9L V-6 4-speed auto 4WD truck with NO problems; and it didn't even have an auxiliary cooler or HD towing package, just the rated hitch. He also towed the boat from FL to MA in his previous Dakota, a 3.9L V-6 5-speed.

Just got back from towing my 19 foot fiberglass Bayliner from central Ohio to northern Michigan and back. The boat and trailer weigh about 3000 lbs together.

My truck is a 1993, 3.9, auto, 4x4, with 3.55 ratio axles. I had to put a new radiator in it to keep it cool, but now the needle doesn't even move, and it pulls the boat just fine.

I tow a 23' wellcraft with a cabin fully loaded and 100 gals of fuel with a 95 3.9 5 speed 3.92 gear. Yes you can go highway I easily take it up to 70 and 75. And can pull it out of the water with no trouble either. My boat is probably alot heavier than wht your talking about so youll have no problem. I originally bought my truck to hual an 18' skiboat and It never had any problems with that either.

Remember, you are braking for two. And that trailers love to try to get ahead of you.

Actually larger boat trailers usually have their own brakes; usually the surge type system that presurizes the brake lines when the trailer is trying to go faster than the truck. Still a good idea to watch your braking distance though.

The bumper on the dak is rated for 2'000 pounds
thats a good size boat or trailer

the frame class A hitch is rated at 5000 on most
of the setups

I pulled a triler weighing in at 6,500 pounds
on snow covered roads pulling was not a prob
but trying to stop was blew righ threw the
first stop sign I came to once I got to the clear
highway it was fine

if you do plan to tow a heavy trailer get an elect
break control and trailer breaks it helps a lot
