Subject: Fan Clutch Removal Tool
IP: Logged

Message:
I am having a hard time finding a way to take the fan clutch off of my 95 V6 3.9L. The fan pulley only has for concentric holes for some kind of pulley tool. Does anyone know of the correct tool to use?
Thanks for your help.

Jonathan

loosen the bolts for the fan itself a little first then I used a short pointed pry bar, smacked it on the end with a 2 pound hammer on my 98. once you budge it unbolt fan from clutch, remove clutch. should come out w/out having to remove fan shroud unless there's more room on a 95 than 98

When you replace it, be generous with the WD-40 and tighten only finger tight. You'll be there again.

While the belt is off, oil the pivot of your tensioner and check to see it hasn't worn out there. Thats what it does and it throws the belt out of alignment causing squeeks and worse.

When I replaced the one on my 99 I loosend the bots holding the fan onto the clutch then used a 15in crecent wrench and a 10 lb dead blow to remove it. It took that much even with liberal wd-40 because it is a northern truck. Whne I put the new one on I cleaned the threads with wd-40 and a wire brush and was generous with the anti seeze before reinstalling.
