Hi Fed!

I have recently purchased a set of the MCH-10515 "power & amp" pulleys. I also have the power steering pulley (stock size but billet) and one of their universal idler pulleys.
The 10515 ONLY steps to a 6-rib belt; this should allow for a wider selection of belt lengths! Yay!

Since I have a '99, I elected to bite the bullet and swap to a water pump with a bolt-on pulley-- not so long ago I said I would not do this :-) so that I could use ALL the pulleys.

I'll clear up some possible misconceptions: the alternator pulley supplied is SAME SIZE as stock, so no charging issues should result. If anything; since the alternator is driven off the (now) smaller crank pulley, it may spin faster? The crank and water pump pulleys are where the changes are. The water pump pulley is roughly the same size as the O.E.M. crank pulley! And the crank pulley is roughly the size of the O.E.M. water pump pulley!

It seems that the extra power to be gained (we shall see...) is achieved mainly by "underdriving" the water pump? Some schools of thought (Moroso, for example) say this is a good thing; reducing cavitation and improving heat transfer to the coolant. BTW: when I get this sorted out, I will be changing to Evans Waterless Coolant. Check their site and product:

www.evanscooling.com

I think they are worth the clams for the looks alone; you can even use one of their covers on the alternator pulley (but it is extra)!

I'll definitely keep y'all posted... :-)

If you do a lot of city stop and go driving
just use the 1 pulley set up all 3 are good
on the high way but bad in the city

under driving the alt droping the voltage will
cause poor off idle and low end response and perf
at night with the lights on its realy bad you
will see the lights dim when your at a stop

By putting a smaller pulley on the altenator, you are not underdriving it, you are overdriving it. Drives (crank) are underdriven when you put on a smaller pulley. Driven devices are over driven when you install smaller pulleys.

I was wondering where the misinformation was coming from concerning the installation of small pulleys on accessories such as altenators.

If you can't see the logic, apply the same logic you are using to a supercharger. If you want more boost do you install a larger pulley or a smaller one? The same principle applies to altenators. If you want to regain the original speed you have to install a proportionally smaller pulley. That's because both superchargers and altenators are driven devices.

It all depends on the setup some under drive both
alt and water pump

most of the 3 pully systems also have a smaller
crank pully which under drives all accererys

The problem comes in when your voltage is low it
effects all the sensor readings causes poor
responce off idle

go to truckperformance.com and read from others
who have used the setup

Most guys will get the crank only pully that
under drives very little and that works good

Humm I wonder why they call them under drive
pully system because they slow down

The crank pulley is always smaller otherwise it would be pointless to replace it. The small pulley on the crank does indeed make the accessories turn slower. However, this is exactly why they provide smaller accessory pullies. the smaller accessory pulley makes the accessory turn faster. Again, refer to superchargers to give you an understanding of this very simple principle.

If anyone is installing a larger pulley on the altenator then I can understand the problem people are having. A larger pulley on the altenator will make it turn slower for any given engine rpm. Installing a smaller pulley on any accessory will cause it to turn faster for any given engine rpm.
