Subject: Tranny Wont Shift, Check Engine Light On

So every since I have had my dak (99 4x4) I have always had problems with my transmission slipping etc. I just had the transmission fluid checked along with oil change etc. back in April. Well last night, I noticed my transmission was slipping alittle more than usual and wouldnt shift past 2nd gear. So I figured it was having one of its "dodge" days, and would be fine in the morning. Well it wasnt and the check engine light came on. So I checked the tranny fluid, which to say the least was bone dry.(Obviously I have some bad leak somewhere) So I went to the store, bought some fluid and filled it up. It was at the full mark so I tried to drive it around the block to see if thats all it needed. CHECK ENGINE light is still on and staying on. And it still wont shift... Now my boyfriend who just had his tranny rebuilt on his dodge said that sometimes once the light comes on and wont shift, it locks like that until looked at and fiddled with. So any suggestions on why the light is still on, and why it still wont shift??

Computer remembers the "fault" and reacts accordingly.
Therefore , first disconnect battery 'negative'
ground terminal , turn key to on and then to start
( totally drains any residual voltage from computer) , then turn key back to off , reconnect battery , start up and see what happens.
However , most important , find the source of the leak and repair..

There is a "governor pressure " sensor on the tranny which probably set the code...

Take it to somewhere that does a free code scan ... like autozone ... they can give you the check code number and clear the MIL light...

defenitly get the leak fixed

than replace the presure sensor and solinoid and
go from there that usualy will take care of it

if the presure is not right nothing will work
right in the trans and that is controled by the
computer on your RE transmission and the sensor
and sol is a very well known and documented
problem with the RE transmissions

They are also very sensitive to fluid no dextron
or cheap fluids ATF +4 or a good syn like amsoil
or redline
