I have a 98 dakota 3.9 auto club cab. 126k
I just bought it 3 days ago and it ran fine.
Now the tranny stays in gear too long it seems, especially first to second. Also when i am driving i will give it a little more gas as if to pass someone and the rpms jump a couple hundred as if it was beginning to down shift. It then revs down to where it was and doesnt accelerate...unless I floor it then it really downshifts to a gear making the rpms jump to around 4k...

Anyone know whats wrong? I have heard band adjustment? Some TPS sensor? Anything else?

I am a college student that just dumped all the money i had into this thing and I cant afford a new tranny...

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Dude. you could always drop the pan and change the filter... - a couple of quarts changed in the process. Or you could flush the entire tranny.... maybe a good idea. If you want a quick answer what your problem is check a mechanic. They will tell you to have them replace it. lol. Might want to search further before you go that route. Thats why I mentioned flushing entire tranny ( possibly doing it yourself ) and changing filter. this isn't a 'fix all' solution for you but it gives you some kind of standing. If no change in tranny behavior, go from there. Last resort, find a tranny shop you could make payment to. Anyways good luck. Tranny problems can be irritating.

adamklein, the thing on the back of the TB is the IAC valve (Idle air control valve), and the hose you are talking about is the PCV hose (thats the only hose I have coming off the intake).

If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks...well...it needed to be replaced anyway.

adamklein, the little throttle[like your passing]rpm going up a few hundred rpms and then going back to where it was is the torque convertor lock-up,THAT is NORMAL

I got the impression he was saying if he wasn't giving throttle or very light throttle and then give it some peddle, doesn't need to be a lot, It well rev a couple hundred in a way it feels like a slipping trany. Soon as it goes up that 200 RPM it comes back down again feeling like it is slipping. My 99 5,2 auto 4x4 started doing this at 30,000. I had the trany and filter changed and bands adjusted. Amsoil. Was the end of it

So many problems .... So little time
