Larry would deffenately be able to help out here, but in my honest opinion check your speed sensor in your rear end housing on top just above your drive shaft... If you have any sort of meter to check ac voltage just plug it in to the sensor "make sure your tranny is in neutral and your parking brake is off" turn the driveshaft and see if it puts out any sort of a voltage reading "AC VOLTS"... Also while doing this make sure the truck is on level ground with the front wheels scotched... Also make sure to use jack stands and not just the hydraulic jack, so as you don't accidently crush yourself... Even turning the driveshaft slowing, there should be a small voltage reading...

huggins, that is a wheel speed sensor for the ABS system. The vehicle does not get it's speedometer readings from the ABS system. The VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor), located on the tailhousing of the transmission gives speedo input data, and is responsible for the proper operation of many systems on the vehicle. The ABS light and speedo could stop working if the VSS fails to give the ECM and ABS modules a vehicle speed input. A possible, but unsure cause.

To XENO: there's a button on your keyboard, right next to the A button, below the TAB key, and above the left Shift key. It allows you the freedom to express yourself through typing without sounding like an ill-educated fool.

Sorry, I didn't know the 2000 had a speed sensor on the tailshaft of the trannys... I know my 99' used the vss sensor for all inputs to everything and it only had one sensor on the rear end above the driveshaft... Of course it is a 5 speed and it never crossed my mind, but if it is an auto then yes you would actually have 3 speed sensors... One for input shaft speed on tranny, another for output speed on tranny and then the one on the rear end housing... The two speed sensors on the tranny are used to look for slippage percentage and torque converter lockup, I didn't realize that these were also used for the speed output... I always thought that the one on the rear end housing was used for your speed inputs and abs operation... Then if you have 4 wheel abs you would even have an additional 2 sensors on the front wheels...

I know these trucks do have rear end sensor problems due to the fact that the plastic would wear in two and cause the sensor to not work correctly...

Sorry for the previously wrong info...
