1996 DAKOTA 3.9 4WD AUTO CLUBCAB. MY SPEEDO STOPS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ONLY HAPPENS WHEN TEMPERATURE GETS HOT(OUTSIDE TEMP, NOT ENGINE TEMP) WORKS FINE ALL WINTER, FALL, SPRING. AS SOON AS IT GETS ABOVE 75 IT ACTS UP. ANY ONE HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEM???
THE ONLY THING IT HELPS IS THE ODOMETER READING

never had the same problem.... but heat adds resistance so theres a chance you got a bad speed sensor

I DIDNT TEST THAT ROUTE BECAUSE I ASSUMED A SPEED SENSOR WOULD AFFECT TRANS SHIFTING. DONT HAVE ANY MANUELS FOR TRUCK. I'LL CHECK THAT OUT THOUGH, THANKS.

depends on what sensor is dab... the one in the rear end housing doesnt effect trans shifting.... the one inthe tranny will though

I have the same problem with my speedo at highway speeds also, I did find that if I push my finger on the the on the clear plastic in front of the speedo it goes back to reading the proper speed,take the pressure off and the speedo stops working. Who would have thunk it.:)

THANKS FOR THE INPUT. WAS TALKING TO AN EX-CHRYSLER TECH AT WORK TODAY AND HE SAID THEY USED TO REPLACE SPEEDO'S UNDER WARRANTY ALL THE TIME FOR THIS REASON. I'LL RIDE IT OUT UNTILL COMPLETE FAILURE AND THEN FIX IT. AFTER ALL IT WILL KEEP THE MILES LOW FOR RESALE.
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TODAY ON MY WAY TO WORK, I'LL CHECK IT IN THE MORNING AND SEE IF RELATED.
