I own a 96 3.9 Dakota. I changed from 235/75/15 to 31x10.5x15 and ran into the same problem. (also have 3.55:1 gears) Installed a throttle body from a 98 5.2 litre truck and now runs much better(10-18 hp increase). Able to perform John Force burnouts again, and cruise at highway speeds without hunting from 3rd to o/d. This upgrade is also supposed to give 1-1.5 mpg gain on highway, I have not checked that as I live in city/suburbs and don't take long trips. Hope that helps.

p.s. t-body swap was not a direct bolt-on, had to grind off plate where throttle cable clips on and weld on the stock from my truck. map, iac and tps were the same.

I've got one with 3.92 gears with 31x10.5r15 tires with the tb change, and still doesn't spin em' from a dead stop.

Try doing brakestands if you wanna cause some smoke!!!

You didn't mention it but if you have limited slip, it is that much harder to break them loose.

My tb change was a direct bolt on, but mine came from a Ram 1500 5.2 see my cardomain for pics
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2235187 it's on page 2

They're beautiful trucks eh?

Try the tb change. Biggest thing i noticed was that it has a much higher top end. Before i probably couldn't break 130km/h before i ran out of road (trust me, i had plenty of road) Now i havn't had a good chance to run it as high as she goes but it's been past 140.

What do you mean by passing gear? 3rd?

power loss
o2 sensor restricted or pluged cat

first thing to do is see what your plugs look like
they should be a light tan if not there is some
thing not right they need to be tan

cold air
bigger tb
1.7's
this will net you 20 to 30 rwhp help both gas
mileage and power but I recomend the F&B or
fastman over the V8 swap

on your 99 I would also recomend the super chips
tunner they help a lot

after all that is done think headers and catback
another 10 to 15 hp but only after the intake side
is improved not before or you will actualy lose
low end

I just bolted on the pacesetter preditor dual
I was very impresed with the sound and low end
gain from the system 8hp at 2000rpm and 12 foot
pounds of torque on a dyno run putting me at 197
rear wheel hp
