ok I have an 87 Dakota with over 250,000 miles. Its a 2WD 3.9L. automatic Tranny. The problem is if I step on the gas more then 1/4 of the way down it boggs down and stalls. If I put it to the floor she takes off. I changed the fuel filter and air filter. Ignition timing seems to be ok. 7 BTS with the vacuum advance on. It was doing this on and off for a while and now its all the time. Which leads me to believe it is something electrical. Has anyone ever had this problem? And if so what did you do to fix it?

Carb'ed right? It sounds like either the fuel pump is going bad or the float needle valve has dirt/crap stuck under the "little" filter sock.

If it doesn't fit, you're using the wrong hammer!

check the fuel pump flow[put the fuel line in a 20oz soda bottle pull coil wire, turn motor over, should about half fill the bottle in the first 2-3 squirts of gas]

the computer controls the metering rods in the carb, they may be leaning out causing this bog

also the computer controls the timing advance,if this is not working you,ll get a bog and the fuel mileage will drop, plus poor power

plus check the vaccuum with a gauge, should have about 15+ at idle and steady

That SPRAY of gas may not be as much as you think. If your carb has not been rebuilt for a long period if ever I'd have to go with logic and say it's your accelerator pump.

So many problems .... So little time
