just bought a 92 dakota 3.9 mag, when tring to start it will run at idle but very rough like a cammed bigblock. it will rev a little if you feather the gas but steady pressure and it just dies.
lots of fuel pressure at the scheader valve and it has spark.
215000km on it also tried another computer with the same results? where should i start looking was thinking timming chain as it backfires and is coughing up through the tb.
the guy i bought it from swears it ran great when he parked it.

If it's the original timing chain, time to replace it with a new one and the redesigned chain guide.

what you need to do is pull a spark plug when you
get the no start condition and determine if it is
fuel or spark.

pull the fuel pump relay thro a timming light
on #1 drivers side and see if its fireing at
10 before if not crank sensor

turn key on off 3 times than on watch the check
engine light and see if you get any codes

Its binary 1 pause 2 flashes is 12
5 pause 5 is 55 end of diagnostics check

if you pull any codes you can find the prob a lot faster

thanks j&j it will not start at all,but has both fuel and spark.
i did have it going for a bit but was very rough and would not rev up.
i will be towing it home this weekend and will pull the codes will also check to see if it's firing at 10 btdc, i am not very familliar with these computer motors as i tend to stay away from them but it's getting hard to find carbruetor vehicles that aren't rust buckets now.
