Depends on your motor.
Mine is a 3.9 and it is located next to the distributor on the passenger side. Very deep 17/8 socket. Around $30.00
Check pressure with a mechanical gauge first.
See the post Amsoil at 10 Pounds.

Larry,
I lied. The socket is: 1-1/16"

jon,
I said the sender is $30.00 or so.
Questions:
1. What engine do you have? Gotta know so Larry can tell you.
2. Why do you want to change the sender?

What readings were you getting?
The plot thickens...
Crazy as it sounds, our motors run from 20 to 60 lbs, or so, and idle at around 10 lbs.
How would a scanner, reading the output of an electronic sending unit, know the reading was false unless a manual gauge was hooked up to verify? Does your gauge not show a reading?
You'll want a 1-1/16" deep socket. The sender is about $30.00. There is a orange slide-lock on the plug. Slide ot over then press the release on the top to pull the wire off the sender.

Hi!

All good advice: Thought I'd add my input and spoil it :-)

My 1999 3.9 with just over 100K has always showed, when warmed, 35 psi or more at idle and 65-70 psi by 2000 RPM. This is all on the factory installed sending unit and the cluster gauge. Recently, I added a mechanical gauge for more peace of mind... it shows basically the same as the factory piece, but response is much quicker!

FWIW, I changed to Mobil 1 10W30 at 500 miles, and have run nothing but synthetic multiweights from 5W to 40W (Amsoil IS best!) ever since. Occasionally I use 5W40 and it does slightly raise oil pressure when warm...

I've also had a remote full-flow setup wih a HP6-size oil filter and -10 Aeroquip lines since summer '04. This cannot hurt...

jon,
Listen to The Purple 1.
Think about this, you cold weather guys; Zero-30 weight oil. You'll never need a block heater. Worked pretty good in warm weather for me.
