Rods knock.....BANG.....BANG.....BANG..... Each time it fires. A main is suporting multiple rods so it is more on the rattle side of it. Rist pin is a double knock.Once as it starts down and once as it starts up. Again . These things are rare these days unless the engine has run out of oil or pump is pluged with sludge. Without my being there to actually hear the noise, I'm unable to tell you anything of actual value and I believe Vern is about there to other then a list of posibilities and that has been well covered. I'm thinking you don't have the mechanical knowledge to know one from the other. That's not a cut down. Just the way it goes. I think it's not going to get figured out at this point and professional involvement is in order. We tried.

So many problems .... So little time

yea thats understandable, all the imput you guys gave me is much appreciated like you said you gotta hear it in order to decide what it might be. Trust me ive had a bunch of like quick stops at places and everyone says something different. 1 says a lifter another says a rod etc.

what i ment with the rod (seeing how it happend to you) u ment as in that once it started it kept on getting worse?

Remember the Sand Pebbles?
Your problem may not match, but things will only get worse.

no i dont recall knowing about the sand pebbles.

I forgot i did the test of removing each spark plug wire to rule out it being a rod or rod bearing and i remembered the noise contiued wheather thats a good or bad thing who knows.

Ironically as it all seems the noise has gotten quiter and it seems the more its driven the better it gets. Trust me any noise a motor makes you expect it will get worse but its been the same or gotten quiter now. Also to the point when i first start it up i cant even hear it which i completely dont understand. The only thing i can make out of that is the oil is so thick (what ever this noise is) is hidden because of this.

Did you add freon? I once overfilled and that caused knocking.
Did you try engine cleaner and new oil? Small chance something got plugged that might cure.
Sand Pebbles is a story around bearing failure on a ships engine. Make more sense now?

Here we go again lol .... Noise getting better, going away. Now you got me thinking you have carbin buildup in the combustion chambers with one having a high point in it that is able to hit each time the piston gets to top dead center. Without reading back through all this stuff, have you run sea foam through it? Might be your answer.

alright well i ran the seafoam through it. then Changed the oil to 20w50 and yup noise is still there. I think its narrowed down to being a main bearing thats noisey at idle and gets muffled or spins itself back at high revs. the 20w50 is awesome on the highway ive never heard my motor run so smooth. But the noise is still there. I think ill put a end to this post unless something major happens with it either it blows up or i achually find the problem and fix it. Thanks to all of you guys that helped me out with this, hopefully it lasts another 50,000 ahah. ill be posting when i need help to put the new motor in ahah.

I used to run 50 weight because, you know, if a little is good...more must be better. Then it was suggested to me the thicker viscosity oil actually may not lubricate as well.
Why, you ask breathlessly? Because of things modern engines have, like tiny holes to spray oil on the bottom of pistons, that don't spray heavy, thick oil.
I switched to 0-30 oil in my Sonoma and picked up 3 miles per gallon better gas mileage.
That same 0-30 weight oil has taken my Dakota 500,000 miles.
For your consideration.
