Hey larry...or anyone else with experience. Im going to find a cheap 3.9 and rebuild it. My question is first is it a bad idea...or what are the best things to increase performance during the rebuild... IM already putting the 1.7 rr or 1.6 and a cam. I want to do a rebuild so i can do everything at once.

Just buy an 8 cyl, you will get all more power for almost the same amount of money.

You can bolt a V8 right in the only diff is in
the wire harnass you need to add the #7 & #8
injector wires everything else will plug right in

Rebuilding is also a good option

Intake gasket match ports if you want to go
farther remove the devider depending on year and
shorten the runners from 16" to 14"

Heads flow fairly well just a good cleanup on the
ports and polish, the V6 heads are touchy if
you start porting and go a little to far the
low end will drop off real fast

Crank is very strong in stock form but if you
find a good crank guy who will do some machining
you can do that and use the 318 rods which are
wider and heaver but not nessisary

Hughesengins.com has some 9.8 to 1 pistons you
can use to up the comp with the stock 58cc head

Other than that they are worth rebuilding

matching the ports and polish head ports will
add about 20hp if you shorten the runners another
15 right around 3000rpm the pistons another 10hp
use the moly rings once seated will run well
over 100,000 miles
