Subject: Throttle body swap/TPS prob

Message:
Hey guys,
I recently replaced the stock v-6tb on my 1997 3.9 Dakota with a V-8 Throttle body.
As soon as i turned the truck on after the swap the idle was really high. I let it Idle for about 5 mins with no change..as soon as I hit the gas the RPMS went down to normal but the Check engine light came on. I took it to Auto Zone and the code its kickin out is P0121 - (TPS volts does not agree with MAP)
Now could i have messed up the TPS when i was disconnecting/re-connecting it or will i need a new/differnt one? Any other ideas?
any help will be great.
Thanks in advance,
Mac

Try resetting your pcm...sometimes they don't like having all that stuff switched around and the readings may be all off.

when doing the swap did you transfer your sensors over to the other TB or use the old stuff that might have been on the V8 TB.... all sensors are the same so they do swap out.....

Use your V6 sensors because you know they were
good

The idle will need to be relearned

start shut off 3 times and it should calm down

Quick PCM reset...

Unhook your negative battery terminal...put key in ignition and turn to start position. Hold there for 60 seconds. Hook the battery back up.

Start the truck and let idle for a minute or two. Don't touch the gas. Shut it off. Repeat. When you start it the third time, you can rev it up, drive it, whatever.

I've noticed by doing it that way, it resets my PCM, but I don't lose my stereo presets.

Another way is...just disconnecting the battery and leaving it disconnected for 20 minutes or so. When I did it that way I had to reset all my stereo presets, which sucked since my equalizer settings were all programmed into it.

There's also a way of just unplugging the PCM or something like that, but I've never done it that way so I'm not gonna tell you how to do it like that...in case I don't have all the details right. Don't want to be responsible for you frying your PCM.

try loosening the screws holding the TPS in place a little. you may have them too tight and it's putting it in a bind causing it to stick/or not return to idle position all the way.

make sure it's sitting level on the TB and it's not cocked at an angle.

If you have a volt meter

TPS center wire and ground

key on engine off open and close throttle and
watch

should always return to same low volts .3 to .7
and have about a 3.0 change .5 to 3.5

How about your IAC idle air control sol
back of tb remove clean with carb cleaner but do
not pull push or twist on the plunger also
spray and clean out the seat put a little oil
or grease or vasoline on the o-ring and reinstal
now reset and start 3 times do not touch throttle

check for any vac leaks this will cause high idle

on your 97 the V8 body must be from a 96 or
newer truck non EGR type
