Just turned 60,000 in my 1999 Dakota 3.9

Was thinking about adding some of this with the next oil change. Have heard it might not be good for a Magnum engine?

Is this true??

As far as I know, Chrysler does not recommend any type of oil additives (I think there was a TSB for it). Use a quality oil and filter...you'll be fine.

i used it once and will never use it again. at the time i had a new '96 GMC Sierra. put this stuff in @ 21K and @ 35k the engine is all of a sudden pouring oil out from every orifice possible. with modern oils i can't see how it would be of any advantage to use additives period. my .02

An alternative; Use Amsoil. My 98 3.9 automatic has 500,000 miles on the origonal engine and transmission. No additives seems to work, for me anyhow.

Amsoil all fluids except motor

Royal purple

I also run moly in my auto trans and SMR trans ships there transmissions with this aditive and
I recomend this

We have pulled transmissions apart with over
100,000 miles with and without the moly and
you can see as plain as day the wear diff
between them especialy the rear support no
ware with the moly

I guess I let the cat out of the bag on having
a very strong trans a good shift kit and the
moly they are virtualy bullet prof

In Canada its called molyslip
In USA its caled mrmoly

Its not a friction modifier moly is to this day
the best lubricant man has ever found

We tested this one day in 2 briggs & strattion
motors 1 assemnled with just oil 1 with moly
started and run with no oil in the crankcase

The oil motor ran 27 min

The moly ran 1 hour 16 min

both locked up but it proved what a superior
lubricant moly is

Once in a while we do stange things but its
always a lot of fun

I have made many posts on this website (search under Slick 50, zMax, MMO, Marvel Mystery Oil) regarding the HAZARDS of using any additives. There are a few good advantages to additives ... but VERY few.

It's the fact that oil chemistry is a science and many hours and lots of $$$ goes into blending oil. To think that an additive maker can come out with something that works in improving the quality of an oil without disturbing the existing oil's chemistry is definitely not thinking about the long term consequences. Chemistry clash is a good reson not to mix differant oils and/or additives to achieve your own "homebrew".

daveshotdako,

CAUTION regarding Lucas Oil Stabalizer

I would NOT recommend Lucas Stabalizer in a motor oil.

Lucas Oil Stabalizer ... in all their demonstration machines ... show how the oil will climb in that little gearwheel contraption. Kinda neat, EXCEPT ... motors have an oil pump so why do you need an additive in a motor oil to help it climb? The oil has more than sufficient ability to get onto and into all parts of an engine. Second, you want the oil to flow ... and by increaseing the tackiness or stickiness to an oil (which is what Lucas promotes), it would reduce flow.

Your Engine needs ... Flow and Filtration.

As Steve our Amsoil sponser here on the dak board
just said as I did

A good synthetic needs no additives

The mr moly we use in the transmissions is the
only additive we use besides the lube guard red
to free sticky valves in the valve bodies we
always try befor a more expensive tear down

I run Amsoil in both my John Deere tractors

1990 L170 14hp in 16 years besides the oil and
filter changes and amsoil sythetic grease with
moly it had 1 spark plug foul

1995 GT275 11 years Amsiol grease and oil and
the universal trans fluid in the hydrostatic
drive nothing but a few set of blades

Amsoil is one of the best out there when it
comes to synthetics I would recomend it to anyone
who wants long life and trouble free equipment

Usually when you buy slick 50 you add it to 4 quarts of dino. But the slick 50 bottle will cost you upwards of $10 dollars, sometimes more!

If you don't want to go full synthetic with all 5 quarts (or 6 qts, whatever you take) that's no big deal. But why pay over $10 bucks to add slick 50 to your oil change when you can spend $4 or $5 bucks and add a quart of Mobil 1 5W-30 full synthetic??

I use regular 10w-30, and a new filter every time. The last oil change I put in a bottle of STP. That sure made the motor run alot quieter, but now I can hear the blasted timing chain.

The STP is really sticky, and smells like 80-90 gear oil...I hope I'm not paying for gear oil in a nice little bottle.

Larry - putting synthetics in a tractor could get pretty pricy when you're running a couple M14 Cummins. I love tractors!!!

A lot of the after-market additive products only "MASK" the problem(s) for a short period of time so that you think the additive is working.

In the long run ... it generally leads to a more expensive repair bill due to the fact additional internal damage was done to the engine or its components.

CAUTION - USE "After-Market" ADDITIVES AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I had an experience with slick 50 back in the late 80's. For the people who do not believe in it, it used to be only available to fleet/law enforcement vehicles. My parents had a ford T bird with a 302 in it and we had put slick 50 in it. My dad traveled a lot in the car and put a lot of miles on it. One day he pulled up from driving 3 hours straight from out of town and said the oil light flickered on and off right before he got home. I checked the dipstick, no oil showed on it. I must be seeing things. So I crawled under and pulled the drainplug. Not one drop of oil came out of it. I could not believe the motor was still running, much less it was not knocking or ticking in anyway. I changed the filter and added 5 quarts of oil and the car ran for 4 more years after that and when we sold it the motor was still quiet and did not knock or tick. This happened in 1989. I have used slick 50 in every vehicle I have owned since then including a 1990 gmc sonoma that had 294,000 miles on it when I sold it. I have never had a bearing problem in any vehicle I have ran it in and after that T bird experience I was sold forever. Why did I put it in the T bird ? A friend of mine's dad used to be in charge of a fleet of vehicles for a cable company and he used it in every one. He also used it in a 1980 ford truck that ran for 350,000 miles before he decided he wanted to rebuild the engine. The stuff works.

The problemw with all oil additives are that the chemical makeup may not be compatible with the additives in your engine oil.
This could cause a chemical reaction, thus degrading your oil and causing increased wear.

Engine oils that used to be good quality is no longer true: This is true about Pennzoil, Quaker State, Kendall, Valvoline, Castrol and others.
The bettter ones today are: Royal Purple, Conklin, Amsoil and a few others.
I use only the very best in the world which is Lubrication Engineers. Login to www.le-inc.com to find a rep in your area.
What about sythetics?
Most sythetic oil blenders use cheap anti-wear additives therefore these oils dosen't last any longer that regular engine oils. The oil may look like new oil but it is allowing excessive wear.
