that's great Larry. please keep us updated on the progress. it's nice to see someone looking out for the v6 guys. it's better than getting the usual "just drop a 5.2 in it".

Thats the same thing I'm planing on, except I'm going to use the 247 / 259 cam. I have the springs & retainers already now I just need the time to pull the engine out.

I am just interested, how long would it take from start to finish on simply installing the engine once it was put together? I got 190K on a 89' Dakota 4x4 V6, and for $1000 bucks and 75 HP - thats sounds tempting. :)

I've never pulled this particular engine before but it doesnt look too bad to do. Just puting the engine back in should just take an hour or so, usualy its hooking up all the hoses & wires etc that takes all the time. I'm sure Larry has a little better insight though.

Larry, are you re-using your Mopar PCM for this rebuild? Any idea when I can buy new or used V6 performance PCM? Seems they are discontinued for 95 V6.

You can still get the mopar performance pcm for
the 92 93 but will work on 92 to 95

Just put DCC-5249521 in the search at
summitracing.com they are reman by
Atech motorsports
$258.95 plus 9.95 handling charge and you will
get one in about 2 to 3 weeks I just got one from
them about 6 months ago

Just bought it at summit racing. It's backordered, expected to ship on 3/3/06. There is no way I could find it without part number you provided. Thanks a lot!
I have now jet stage 2 installed but I guess I won't need it anymore after I swap in the pcm.

The engine build you are talking about; does it work with a stock PCM or will it need a performance PCM.

92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.

$1000 sounds really low. What parts does that total include? I assume you already have the intake, heads, and TB. Are you reusing piston rings? Thanks, if this is an accurate price I need to rethink my plans for my dakota.

From Hughes, heres the parts I'm getting....
OEM intake valves $76.00
OEM exhaust valves $60.00
Valve springs $76.00
Retainers $46.50
Locks $18.00
Reground cam $197.00
Pistons $187.50
Rings $59.00
Thats $720.00 in parts. Im not sure what the machine work will cost, I'm figuring on new valve seats & guides and boring the block .030 over.

The stock pcm will run my strokers so it will
esaily run this motor you will get more perf
with a performance pcm

You can also get a fact sheet from jet and they
will make a custom chip to run it

The stage 2 chip will not run with the perf pcm
it will trip tps codes and is not needed with the
pcm remember this pcm has better fuel and timming
maps and runs about 8 degrees advance in the
timming its very noticeable even more with the
more mods you do

You may have to drop 1 range on the plugs to
avoid ping 3923 or the ngk fr5

I agree with 97dakota, there is no way you are getting all those parts for $1000. You must already have some of them!

Hey Larry! How much power does that Performance pcm kick out on a 93 3.9? Just a rough estimate would be nice. Thanks for the part # too.

No 9.8 pistons from hughes engines and .020 mill
on the head with the stock 58cc chamber so around
10 to 1 comp

The NGK FR5 is 1 range colder than stock FR4 I
tried them in the vortech 360 motor and they ran
better now this motor has a set of halo's in it

On my 95 4X4 with all the bolton's and a perf
comp and crank sensor mod to 14 BTDC base I was
getting ping I tried the 3922 autolite and it
still was pinging so I looked at the NGK ground
electrode and noticed it was heavier so I droped
them in and the ping was gone I ordered aset of
1 colder halo's for it now but the NGK V power
does run very well
