I have a 93 Dakota it has only one cat on it. I have thought of just getting rid and putting new piece of pipe there. I dont have emissions here anyone tried it. I have a dynomax super turbo coming now to install. Just wanted to do both at same time. Any help would be great.

Well I'm not sure how similar our trucks would be, but I have an '89 Dak. I removed my Cat about 4 years ago it seemed to help the exhaust note a little, but at the same time I removed the stock muffler and added a glass pack. I had trouble getting a piece of pipe in there since the inlet to the cat was odd shaped. Do you have a Smog pump installed? if so just remove it or take the belt off. On mine there was the smog pump pipe running into the cat which I also cut off. But I have had no problems since I removed both. Hope this helped a little.

I tried this when my converter came apart. I have the 3" in/out main pipe and the truck lost torque. It seems these engines like a little backpressure, it sounds good but not worth a power loss. A better modification would be if the aftermarket made a mandrel bend crossover pipe without all the manufacturing clearance dents in them. I haven't found one yet.

I have a 92, I cut my cat out and scewed it up because i could find 3" pipe anyware. So I took it to an exaust place they didn't replace the cat. I have 3" all the way back with a flowmaster 40 seires delta flow. My 0-60 went from 8.5 to almost 8 sec. flat. It helped my top end too.

Mark green92 ive never heard of a power loss when taking off the converter?? most people get around a 10-15hp gain from it and makes the truck growl! i was going to do that but i have emissions and they wont even check the car without a cat on it.=(

Montag 3" you can get at any muffler place or if you know somebody you could proably get it for free i basically got my 40 series flowmasters for free only paided $100 for them installed you just have to getthe right connections(thats the only thing i got cheap)

i have a 99 3.9 and was thinking about replacing the cat w/ a straight pipe.. i was wondering what to do about the sensor behind the cat. i'm pretty sure it will screw something up if i just take it off.. or what about welding a fitting for it on the new pipe? need some tips please.. thanks
