Looks like the Mitsubishi Raider is back out, and it's simply a more stylish Dak. At least somebody is doing something to make the new models LOOK a little better.

Same power options - 3.7 V6, 4.7 V8.

Anybody actually looked at one?

Just saw one the other day - too much gray plastic for my liking, but hey, maybe they'll be able to get more than the standard Dakota 14-16 mpg.

Same truck with different sheet metal, they're even built at the Warren plant. It's a Dakota with a better warranty.

And if you want the Getrag 238 tranny (6 speed manual) you can only have it with the 3.7L V6. That blows!

modain, unless you know something I don't, the Getrag IS the standard manual tranny on all new Daks. The V6 does get a different auto than the V8.

Hey prodak, your statement is correct specific to 2005 Dodge Dakotas. This thread is discussing the 2006 Mitsubishi Raider. (At least that's how it started out...) My comment was specific to this truck. If you go to Mitsu's web site and go through the "build me one" path you'll find that the manual tranny is only available on V6 equipped trucks. Go with the V8, and your only "choice" is the automatic.

I wasn't responding to Fed's or your subsequent posts about the HO availability in the Dakota. That information has been well established for quite some time now.

Mitsubishi blew the opportunity on the styling. It looks too much like a Nissan Frontier. It would have been nice if they didn't choose to pattern the looks after the other "Japaneese" trucks on the market. Be different!

The ironic part of this whole thing is that years ago, Dodge was selling the Mitsubshi mini-trucks as the Ram D-50. I had one for 17 years, and it was a good little truck.

This time around, the shoe is on the other foot and Mitsubshi is selling the Dodge with a little different sheet metal. Under all the covers, it's still a Dak.

In terms of the styling - yeah, it DOES look a lot like the Frontier, but I STILL think it looks better than the new Daks. I took a hard look at a new Dak at the stealership last week, and was really disappointed in how cheap the durned things look.

Guess I'll be keeping my '02 for a good while longer. Just wish I could get the mileage out of it that the old lady's 100,000 mile plus Venture van, Vortec V6 gets. Drove it down to get my daughter married off last weekend, and the thing got almost 29MPG going down to the eastern part of NC!

Sorry modain, I wasn't attacking you, a simple "I was referring to the Raider" would have sufficed. Sorry if I lapsed into thinking about Dakotas on a Dakota forum (silly me).

If that's what you want then buy a Dakota, then it won't blow.

in the Mitsu Commercial (where the Raider is going up a hill and it meets another truck, and the other truck "wets" itself) is that a Nissan Frontier? (the vehicle that wets itself?)

I always thought it looked better.

but the Raider looks pretty good with the BFGoodrich All-Terrains. I just put them on my 2wd Reg Cab Dakota this weekend and they look damn fine.
