Subject: High Idling after TB Swap!!!
IP: Logged

Message:
I just did a TB swap the other day. I reseted to computer and started the engine up for alittle bit then turned it off. Waited a 30seconds and then turned it back on again. It is now idling at 850 to 975 RPM. How can I change this? I think I heard something about a idle screw earlier but I can not remember where it was. Please help. Thanks in advance!

the idle screw is on the passenger side where the cables attach. it is behind a little plug that you have to drill out if you want to adjust it. it is normal for it to idle higher. that is about where mine idles and i have adjusted the idle screw as much as i can.

GET IN, SIT DOWN, SHUTUP, AND HOLD ON

That screw is not there to set the idle. IAC should adjust the idle for you. The so-called idle screw is there to set the minimum throttle opening. Because of manufacturing tolerances the factory needs to be able to adjust the plates so that they don't stick.

A number of things can cause a higher idle after the swap. When you do a swap it is best to use the original tps but even that shouldn't be critical. Also try resetting the PCM which will then detect the initial voltage setting of the tps. Other factors have included incorrect assembly, defective IAC or damaged IAC.

I've had a few swaps initially idle a little fast. I usually start it up and let it idle by itself without touching the throttle unless the rpms are low and then only enough to keep it running. The idle usually settles down after a minute or two.

N56629 nailed some good points. You may have thought of it, but vacuum leaks are a favorite for high idle. Look for gasket breaches, loose hose, etc. Spray starting fluid around suspect areas and listen for the idle to pick-up pointing to the leak.

After my tb swap my idle was high also I reset the comp and after driving about 2 tanks of gas still a high idle . I tried other things people said to do my last resort was the idle screw it worked so remove the little freeze plug and lower your idle.
