A friend of mine has a 2004 Dodge Dakota quad cab v6 5 speed with 11k on it. He wants $15,000. I don't know much about the Dakota gas motors. Like how long this v6 has been around or how reliable it is. The fact that it is a v6 doesn't bother me and I would prefer a 5 spd even though it makes the truck worth less.

My immediate need for it is to haul Fema trailers with it, which are averaged sized travel trailer. I assumed it could accomplish this even with a v6. It is about a 200mi haul one way on mostly interstate.

Any input from you guys who know about these trucks would be greatly appreciated.

I saw someone with the same truck only with a v8 and automatic for $17,000. Seems like a lot more for only 2k. Is there much of a gas milage difference between the two?

The 3.9 Magnum has been around for what 15 years? It is a reliable engine based off of another reliable engine the 5.2. With the manual tranny, you won't have many problems with the drive train/ect. As with ALL dakotas, the only problems you will have would be the ball joints, timming chain. How heavy is this trailer you are towing?

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Adam-
2004 is the first year for the 3.7L V6 in the Dakota (3.9L discontinued 03) but so far only positive reports on it. The 6 will pull the trailer, just don't exceed max towing rating for that truck (has more to do with wheelbase than engine/tranny).
Towing with the V8 will probably get you the same or even better mpg than the V6, but the 6 has the potential for significantly better mileage in normal driving, and the manual tranny gives the V6 a slight edge (IMO) over the V8 auto.

Also, the 3.7L was introduced in 2002 in the Rams and Jeep Liberty.
