well he is right and wrong. the battery only starts the vehicle, after that the alternator runs all the electronics. that is why on older vehicles (like my 72) you can disconnect the battery terminal and it will stay running. however, new vehicles use the battery to complete some electrical circuits for sensors and some other stuff. so if you had a "fouled" battery, for lack of a better term i guess, it could cause high resistance in the circuit and the vehicle would do lots of funny things. including not staying started and/or not starting at all. replacing the battery would solve this problem.
