I have a 98 3.9 and auto tranny. Lately its been making a ratcheting noise or buzz noise in 1st gear before shifting into 2nd. I have also noticed for a while now that when I put it in gear it makes a loud clunk noise and engages very abruptly in forward and reverse. I've checked fluid levels ok and fluid is red not burned. Could this all be a cause of TV position cable?

any check engine light? If not I would start thinking about a new transmission, or a quart of that TransTech or whatever you might find as a tranmission fix-all substance. Could help for a while.

If it is a failure and you need rebuild, get a Mopar tranny- it will serve you better in the long run.

Before condemning anything, change fluid and filter and adjust bands, then TV cable. Tight band adjustments can result in harsh engagement and late shifting.

that's true. I guess I jumped the gun a little there. If the fluid is described as being "red" though it's probably OK. Generally transmissions will work on some pretty cruddy oil that is anything But red.

About how many miles are on this truck?

Theres about 120000KM on it and was changed at 50000. I read something about the governor pressure selenoid pack in the trans. Could that be it?
