Stuck EGR valve? Try a new distributer? It's a tough game guessing over the net. How do your spark plugs look? Fouled, oiled up, broken insulator? A broken vaccum line would probably make for a consistant problem, but I suppose it is a (remote) possibility.

Could be a cracked wire somewhere casuing the random problem. It would make sense given the recent overhaul on the engine, some wire might have been carelessly left out of place. Maybe a ground wire.

I assume you've already run a compression test on the motor to try and eliminate a fault in the rebuild job. Did you get a Chrysler rebuilt motor or did you have it done at a shop, or did you do the work yourself? I generally recommend that people get factory rebuilt motors (and transmissions) because of the superior consistancy in quality of the factory rebuilds.

Another thing- you said you just returned from basic training- did the truck sit outside? If so, it is possible that a little varmit of some kind chewed on something important- you'd be surprised what those little suckers can chew through- like a braided stainless steel fuel line!

Check the wires that go to your coil. Mine was stalling and bucking after a rebuild. It was a broken wire, it was cutting out at certain speeds and RPMs, very sporratic.
