Got a 95 3.9l club cab 215,000 miles on the old goat. Have the motor taken down to the block. Replacing head gaskets. What other preventive matienance should I do while all these parts are off.

I would go a step further and put new piston rings in, I did mine at 130,000 and they were pretty worn, could probably got another 100,000 out of them. I just didnt want to take it apart again that soon. Also check your pushrods for wear.

If you have it out it is worth to do the job right. Have the cyl's honed and put in new rings, put in new bearings and a new timing chain, new oil pump, new distributor, and for kicks go with a performance cam. Aside from the cam you never pull an engine apart without doing those things.

That also depends on how much money you care to invest. You might have the block magnafluxed, check for cracks, check out other components for cracking as well. Piston rings are certainly a good idea. Valve guide seals are known to be worn at that age. New main seals could do you good in the long run, as I have seen several 3.9s begin bleeding there, especially with a lot of hard use on them. Checking the deck for warpage might not be a bad idea as well. I would have connecting rods inspected for cracks as well.

Again, it all depends how much you're willing to spend and if you have it to spend. Checking for a cracked block would probably be wise though- you will want to know if anything else you do is working.
