replacing a broken timing chain 99 Dak v6 3.9
Do you have to put the chain on before rotating the crank. We tried to line up timing mark but cranks shaft seems to be hitting something on the #1 side. Is this a clearance problem. Or should the crankshaft turn freely without the chain. Does the cam shaft have anything to do with this or does it sound like I need to take the cylinder heads off and check for a broken valve or piston rod. Lets get me back on the road!

Thanks!!
