Subject: V6 Dakota misfire code p0304
IP: Logged

Message:
My dakota puts up the code p0304. Ive had the injectors cleaned, the plugs and wires replaced and the #4 injector has been checked out and is just fine. What else could cause the misfire? It runs great going down the road but the misfire occurs when it's idleing. Could it be a sensor?

You did not mention if you changed the dist. cap and rotor. If either of them is bad it could cause a misfire.

Do you have any noise from the timing chain? if it is worn you could have enough slop to cause a misfire. The dist. gear or bushing could also be worn allowing a misfire.

One other thought if you are using oil you could have a leaking plenum cover. With the engine off take the hat off of the throttle body and open the throttle plates all the way then look down at the bottom (plenum plate) and if you see pools of oil you have a leaking plenum gasket and that can cause a misfire. If you are not using oil it is some other problem.

Hey thanks a lot, nobody has suggested that. It is about a quart low so maybe this is the problem. Maybe this gasket thing isnt that big of a deal to fix

I used the Hughes plenum plate and gasket a year or so ago and it is a first rate fix for this problem. It has all the bolts and gasket you need except for the manifold gasket set.
