DOES ANYONE THINK THAT IT AS ALL POSSIBLE TO PUT A CRATE VIPER MOTOR INTO A 1992 SINGLE CAB DODGE DAKOTA OR DO U THINK I SHOULD PUT IN THE CHYSLER SRT/6 335HP V6 IN IT.
PLZ HELP I NEED MORE HORSEPOWER OR GIVE ME HINTS ON HOW TO GET AT LEAST 350HP OUT OF IT AND I NEED A TRANNY THAT WILL GET ME BETTER ACCELERATION AND AT LEAST A TOP SPEED OF 140-150
MY MOTOR IS A WEAK ASS 3.9 V6

I have seen a Viper V10 in a 98 dak 4x4, fit kinda snug. Dont know about a 92 though, should be about the same size engine compartment.

the crate engine alone is gonna cost you like 10-12 grand, if it's new. then add the cost of installing and you could just buy a new truck for that amount. if you want to spend around 6-7 grand on your current motor (3.9) then do a search for Larry's posts. that guy is genious with these motors. you could just swap it for a 5.9 and get the same and better performance depending on how much you put into it, and still have money left for gas. for the tranny, just put in a viper tranny to match. maybe the 5 speed tranny that comes with the hemi trucks would work too.

Possible motor swaps that are "simple" in a dakota are 5.2 or 5.9. You want 350 horse just do some modification to a 360 (5.9) and drop that in with a A518 tranny built correctly with a transcat heavy duty shift kit with an auxilary trans cooler. That combo should net you 350 horse easy. but then you need to look at your axles and suspension if you plan to do anything serious with it. Dakota axles can take quite a bit, but I would probably re-gear it with like 4.10's and a detroit locker. Possibly heavy duty axle shafts and a 4 link so you don't have axle wrap and traction issues. You have alot of money to spend to make this scenario work.

Ok it might be cool to say hey I got a viper engine but not really logical. You are going to pay over twice as much for the engine then you probably did for your truck. That only includes the engine. You'll have to get a whole new drive train let alone a whole lot of other stuff and that's not gonna be cheap either. Better off getting a 360 either stock or performance built. You can find a 360 with 380hp/410 ft-lbs of torque for $4100 or less.
I even found a site. Then with the money saved you can get yourself a heavy duty tranny and go with some lower gears. And still not pay as much for all this as you would with the Viper Engine. Plus the 360 was one of the original engines in the Daks. Either way you go ya gotta post some pics and some numbers.

it's not a "chrysler" motor in SRT.. it's a mercedes drivetrain. It would probably cost well over the Vipers drivetrain in price.

Well see now I completely disagree with that. You buy what you buy becasue you want it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having your cake and eating it too. I lifted my truck and I still want more power out of it and I will continue to spend the money for it. Plus its only a V6 so I will have to work my ass off for it but in the end it is mine and it's different because that would be too easy to go out buy a sports car and parade around in that. I will be taller and faster, or at least not the slowest!

Wait for Greg to get you the link for the R/T style hood...that should definitely give you an extra 100hp or so.
