Just a quick question, miles are getting up there (just shy of 98k) and going to replace timing set. Went to advance auto and they have a set made by S A gear for about $50. Went to autozone and they have a set made by dynagear for about $60 i think. Has anybody ever had any experience with either of these sets? Just wondering if I'd be better off ordering a cloyes setup from summit. Really I'm looking for a double roller set but neither place can even order a double. Also I'm going to replace the water pump since i'll have it off anyways and i don't know how long it's been on there (assuming it's the original) better to be safe than sorry.

sorry, never heard of those companies. Good luck removing the fan clutch from the water pump though. I had to make a special tool to do it on my 96 dakota.

if you want something thats going to last longer check out summit or jegs
get a "true double roller" cloyes is one of the co.'s that make them timing stays more acurate
& they stretch less then a reg. chain set

I got my double roller chain thru carquest. Fit perfect and hasn't given me any trouble. Got 40k on that chain already. It cost me just over 60 bucks but I got it for cost so expect to pay over 100 for it.

I have a somewhat related question.

I have a 94 3.9 in my Dak and I have a case of the clakey claks from the timing chain. I know there was a TSB on these models and I belive a revised tensioner was made avalible. Was this just to silence the noise or is there risk of the factory chain failing?

If it's loose enough to clack, it's loose enough to jump.
When you can get a true roller from somewhere like Summit, for $42, why fool with an OEM-style weaker non-roller?
