Message:
I just finished reading posts back to 2003 regarding tune-ups.
Gleened TONS of great info... SEARCH function RULES! However
it did leave me a bit corn-fused...

I have a 2001 3.9 Quad with Auto. I live in hot and steamy South
Florida... hit 100 today with the heat index. So far the only mods
to my motor are a Dynomax 17748 (http://
www.dodgedakotas.com/boards/v6/9215.html) and if my
delivery is on time a K&N drop in for the stock airbox friday. I
use my truck for towing my boat on average 2 hrs each way to
fish and for around town driving. I do not plan on making any
more mods from here on out.

So here are my questions

1. with the mods listed should I go with with the cooler Autolite
plugs and open the gap .005 from stock
2. would the cooler 180 thermo be a good idea or bad idea for
south florida
3. Summit Racing has (part#SUM-867624CR) Summit Volt Max
X-TREME Spark Plug/Cap and Rotor Kits "Handle extreme
conditions.
Tune-up your entire ignition at once with Summit Volt Max X-
TREME spark plug/cap and rotor kits. They're made to handle
extreme conditions while perfectly matching OEM specs. The
ultra-low resistance wire core is wrapped in a high dielectric
capacitance jacket to keep voltage directed to the plug, and is
protected by a tough silicone outer jacket. Stainless steel
terminals (solid brass for Ford D.I.S. applications) with hardened,
positive snap-locks ensure a permanent connection, and the
silicone boots can handle up to 450 degrees F of heat. The wire
sets include dielectric grease to seal terminals and boots, plus
wire separators (a must if your OEM wire are 7mm)." Or should I
go with Napa brass cap & rotor, MO26 and MO29 and 8.0 plus
wires

Here is my list of replacement parts... am I missing anything?

plugs
cap
rotor
plug wires
PCV or is it PVC
fuel filter

Thanks in advance!

Cheers
Jan

1- yes then check after 1000 miles and see if you are getting a nice tan color on the plugs.
2- i80 should work fine just be sure that it opens at 180 or above. I recomend superstant t-stat
3. just use the napa cap and rotor, get msd or taylor wires.
You can not change your fuel filter unsless you pull your fuel pump out of the tank. Just run some good fuel injector cleaner, through the gas tank. I still have the same pump and filter after
164,000 miles.
If you are not going to put in a cold air intake remove the snorkel from the front of of the air box and cut the hole to 4" then remove the flap from the passenger side of the radiator to let cool air in.

'98 cc auto /Home brew cold air with K&N,Dynomax, Superchip Tuner, 1.7 RR,, F&B tb. NAPA cap and rotor, 3923 plugs, tps mod, relocated & switchable iat, 180 t'stat, Crankshaft sensor mod.,PVI,Ported and Polished manifold, bosch injectors,Black Magic Elec Fan, msd wiires
