Subject: HELP! distributor won't move
IP: Logged

Message:
I'm doing the injector sync.
My 1994 3.9 has a clamp under the 1/2" bolt, so I removed the bolt and clamp. No one mentioned the clamp. Is it on all gen2's?
Anyway, the distributor won't move at all.
What am I doing wrong?
Will the clamp go back on after moving the dist?

Truck is down, do please reply ASAP

Thanks
zzark

i'm at a loss here bud (clamp or hold down tab?)
i have a 94 with the 3.9
did the inj sync and all i had to do was
losen the hold down bolt
(didnt have to remove it)
i will admit it was hard to move the dist. at first they get pretty seated over the years

put the (clamp) and bolt back in finger tight
any carb cleaner? or WD-40 spray some around the bottom of the shaft and let it set a bit
try it again after awhile

Yes, the hold down tab.
That's a good idea to spray.
Kinda hard to get to though, but I'll do it.

Thanks

Hey Joe.
I sprayed it good. I'll let it sit overnight.
I got fired last week, so I don't have to go to work in the morning. :)

sory to hear about work
I'll check the board before i leave tomorrow
if you didnt catch the other post
when you set it rotor just to the right of the CYL. line a hair after or
the left edge of rotor just on the right edge of the line
you wont get balls to the wall improvments
but what i noticed was the RPM's pick up way faster and i have also noticed a slight increase in MPG's
(maybe do to the engine having more "Pep")
if your rotor was right on the line or to the left of it, you should notice an improvment
on the first drive after your done.
Have a good one ......

I got the dist. to move this morning.
Truck runs fine.
I'll have to drive more to make a final assessment.

What size socket fits the crank bolt? Is it 1 1/4"? Nice to know before spending $10. Also, what is the best angle to reach and rotate from, with the fan and shroud in the way? Looks like I might need a 2nd person to see the timing marks while I rotate.

Yes, a 1 1/4 socket works.
I rotated from underneath.
A second person would help, but I did it myself.

Bob, gen2 or 3? On my gen3 I removed the shroud under the engine. Its held on by about 8 of those annoying plastic fasteners, I tried prying them with a screwdriver to no avail but I realized a claw hammer worked out pretty good.

My truck runs great. Best mod so far.
It got rid of that last little bit of hesitation.
The pickup has more pickup.
The puppy is more peppy.
There's more zip in the ...
Well, you get the point.
Now I'll see how the mileage is.

Moe, Gen II (1992). I don't want to screw with the shroud if I can help it. The slowest part of this job for me will be to get to TDC. Then it will be tough to crawl underhood on top of engine to see dist marking.
