Yeah, I have an automatic transmission. Also, one of the companies that sent me free parts was Royal Purple Fluids. They ended up sending me about $300 worth of oil in 5 boxes. I will be putting in their engine oil, gear oil(front and rear diffs), power steering fluid, transfer case fluid, and a radiator additive. I'm hoping that will decrease my drivetrain loss alot.

That's great. I think a good rule of thumb for drivetrain loss to be about 20-25% on an auto but since you have a 4x4 the transfer case adds a little to that. you'll have a plethora of info once your done with everything. i wish we would have done something like this when i was in school.

I was told that 4x4 auto should loose 28-30%. When I dynoed my truck the loss was like more than 50%, but I think this dyno run was crap. The torque curve looks weird, starting high then dropping down then going high again. I was told it's a sign of either a wrong setup or screwed up software in the dyno.

Well, had a busy couple of weeks, so I haven't been able to get anything done. This next week I should have the Royal Purple in my truck and possibly get some numbers on it. I put new tires on my truck last week--they will probably decrese my horsepower a little. I went from 235s to 31s. I'm glad there are still people who are interested in what I am doing! Thanks.

Thanks-
Sorry about the lack of info lately. I have started adding the Royal Purple fluids this past week. Once I finish that, then the pulley will go on and I'll get some numbers.
As for the tires, yes a larger tire will decrease horsepower. I said that I went from 235s to 31s and it will probably decrease my power output (but my truck looks alot better since its a 4x4).

Awesome project going on here. Just read throught the whole thing. Now I'm depressed to know that my truck probably isn't even pulling 120 hp. I was really hoping to hear that the rockers put out more power than that. Keep up the good work.

Alright, finally got an update. I put all of the Royal Purple synthetic fluids in (motor oil w/ K&N hi-flow oil filter, transfer case fluid, differential fluid, and power steering fluid). Today I went to the Dyno and got some results. My truck pulled 5 more HP and 3 more ft/lbs. with the Royal Purple.
Then I got out my SUPERCHIPS TUNER that I just bought and programmed my truck while it was sitting on the Dyno. Less than 10 min. later, my truck pulled 17 more ft/lbs. and 2 more HP. I installed the 87 Octane setting NOT the Performance setting (which when I do install the performance setting, my HP will go up alot). So all in all it was a good day. Numbers so far:
142 HP
218 TQ

Hell yeah buddy!! So you pulling a little over 200 HP at the fly wheel...not bad for "bolt-on" mods and synthetic fluids!!

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Gunner, do you have a total dollar value of the mods/improvements you done so far? it would be cool just to have an idea of $ to HP ratio.

Yeah, I have been using the same Dyno and the same 2 guys have Dynoed my truck every time.
cuzindoug-
Do you know how I could measure HP/TQ at the flywheel? I'd like to see those numbers.
daddio-
I will have to figure out the amount I've spent so far plus the cost of the sponsored parts. I'll get back to you on that.

Gunner, that would be great. for HP/TQ @ the flywheel, you'd have to pull the engine and run it on an engine dyno instead of the chassis dyno. typically, with an auto trans you can count on about 20-25% drivetrain loss and a manual, look for about 15-20% drivetrain loss. these are just estimates.

i really couldn't say. it all depends on how efficient their auto tranny's are. last year this time i had an '05 QC Dak as a rental for about a month. that 4.7 w/ 545rfe was really smooth and responsive. if it is really efficient, i couldn't tell you.

i wouldn't want an auto in anything i drive anymore. my '00 QC Sport is a 5spd manual.
