OK, I know there are a ton of exhaust posts already out there, but I'm looking for a specific sound and am having problems finding it.
I ran open for a while and that was alright, but I couldn't take the headaches. I installed a Flowmaster 40 yesterday, but it kinda went backwards from what I expected. It's quieter outside the truck and it's still loud in the cab.
Hear's what I want? Remember the old muscle cars that had that deep, throaty tone (thwump, thwump....thwump.thwump). Kinda sounded like it was about to stall. That's what I want.
I don't know if the stutter was due to the fact that the timing wasn't perfect on those cars or what, but I at least want the sound if not the stutter.
Any ideas?

did you put a tailpipe on your flowmaster...they seem to be a lot louder in the cab without a tailpipe and give a better sound with a tailpipe...
"thwump, thwump....thwump.thwump", you won't be able to copy that...that was mainly due to a high lift/long duration camshaft and a symptom of 8 cylinders.

Your too smart Greg. No, no tailpipe yet. Gotta visit the exhaust shop and get one built. (Yes, I'm a moron and tossed the old stock pipe with the muffler).
As for the stutter... bummer man! I love that sound! :)

too smart? yeah right!... too much of a looser is more like it!
i don't have a tailpipe either because my rear suspension doesn't give enough room... but when i did it sounded really bad ass.
you can make it sound pretty cool but no stutter. my truck actually shakes and you can feel the exhuast but there is no seperation of the valves opening (what you were referring to).

If your 40 is still loud after you get the tail pipe look into the 50 ser. I have it and it is just right for not to much noise in the cab, but good grumble out the rear.

You can throw a bigger cam in there and get in to rock a little bit. I like a little bit of a lope.
