I'm looking to purchase a 2003 Dakota v6, 4x4, 13,000 miles but it doesn't have cruise control. Anyone know how much it would cost to have cruise put on it and if it's difficult to do?? Thanks

I'm not sure....but I'de do your research of the differences between a V8 and V6 Dakota before you buy it. I figured I'de save gas with a V6...and a number of other things. I'm not bashing the V6 at all....I'm satisfied with it, but a V8 is more bang for the buck with gas mileage very close to the V6.

I have a 2000 dakota 3.9 with 109,000 & 32's and I average about 16-18 mpg. I just lifted it yesterday so other than that I have a CAI and a V8 TB as mods done so far. I'm stuck in the same spot as you, I dont have Cruise and I would really like it.

You don't need cruise control, I can hardly ever use mine. If I so much as hit a hill it will downshift like 4 times through out the length of the hill if its long. at the same token sometimes I can drive the same hill with my foot without even downshifting...Alot better with an automatic to drive with the foot.

Well where I'm at I'm not in the hills unless I want to and I have a tendency to have a heavy foot... forgot to mention that too with my MPG... and it would be very convenient to have cruise.

After 2 speeding tickets I had cruise control installed on my 2001 for $300.00. Dodge wanted over $500.00. Don't waste your money though. I had mine installed by a local aftermarket car stereo dealer, and I have not had any problems for over 3 years. Just call around to several car audio dealers and compare prices. It won't mount the same as stock, but it will save you money.

How hard would it actually be to do it yourself? I've haven't seen the complete set up but I don't think it would be that hard? Wiring might be annoying but other than that I wouldn't think so. Is there something I'm missing?

It is really not that hard, the problem is trying to find the room to mount the actuator and associated parts and of course routing all the wires(including throught the firewall, etc) I am going by the experience of installing one on a 89 camry.

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

That's what I figured thanks... Is there a list somewhere for all the stuff for it cuz I could probably pick one up at the junk yard for real cheap.

Rough parts list @ http://www.mydodgeparts.com/ Plus I think you need a couple of other switches (resume/cancel/coast), (set/on/off), etc

CLOCKSPRING
Electrical - Chassis electrical - Supplemental restraint system - Clockspring

BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH
Fuel system - cruise control - Brake pedal switch

CABLE
Fuel system - cruise control - Cable

ENGAGEMENT SWITCH
Fuel system - cruise control - Engagement switch

SERVO
Fuel system - cruise control - Servo

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

I have a 2003 Dakota SXT (v6) 2x4 and I get at least 20 MPG with a Gibson side swept exhaust and home brew intake (a total of $350 for both). And with gas prices the way they are I'm getting a return on my investment sooner than i expected. I even have a 300 lb truck cap on it and it still hauls a$$. Its also a manual tranny. Besides, its a truck, what did you expect? As for the cruise control i would just try to find a truck with it from the factory.
