Subject: V8 Throttle Body Swap
IP: Logged

Message:
So all you need for the throttle body swap is the throttle body itself, a gasket, and the throttle cable off of the V8?
Also, does anyone know about how much it will cost to buy a V8 throttle body off of a junkyard truck or is it better to buy a new one from a parts store?

Good point, do a search first.

As to where to buy and how much, it varies by location. Check www.car-part.com and you will see.

You won't find them at your local parts store but check out all the dodge forums and you will likely find them for sale. The most I have ever paid was $35 and that was with all the sensors and very clean.

There is only one thing dumber than not doing a search b4 posting.

That's someone that opens a thread, knowing full well what the question is and then proceeds to tell that person to do a search.

I mean who the hell cares? Do you just feel this uncontrolable urge to post something? What compels you to open a thread that doesn't interest you?

Thank you N56629. At least someone had the decency to answer my questions without telling me what I should do before I make a thread. I did do searches and I did read different threads, but I couldn't get some of the exact answers I was looking for. I'm not one to be vocal until I exhaust all other sources first.

I'll bet that you didn't read all 1510 hits that I got when you enter key word v8, v6 and throttle body. If you had I'll bet that you would have found answers to all of your questions.

For the cable try entering "v8 throttle cable."

I guess the questions come up several times a week if not more and some people get tired of answering, but then they should do like Jerry said and get on with their lives.

Have you considered porting or having your tb ported and avoid all the hassle of finding, buying and installing the v8 cable?

Is having the V6 throttle body ported really a cheaper option than the V8 throttle body? And if so, how much does it cost to have the V6 throttle body ported? Won't there be a bigger increase in HP with the V8 TB than with a slightly larger V6 TB?

Cost more? Probably, but what's the cost of hunting down a v8 TB, making sure you don't end up with an EGR version, cleaning it up, finding and installing a v8 cable?

Can you get a v6 tb to flow as much as a v8 tb mounted on a v6 manifold? Sure.

I can't find the answer to this particular question even though I know that it has been answered before. I installed a V8 TB and I noticed a "slight" lose in low end power. I attribute this to the turbulance cause by the mismatch in TB/manifold size. I was going to make an adapter plate to tapper to the correct size, but i just got a free intake manifold that I will be able to "play" with. If I machine the size of the intake bore(47.5mm) will I have to change anything else? I thought that I had read that I would, but I can't seem to find THAT post.

You won't regain the bottom end by matching the bores. You lost bottom end because of volume.

I've made the point about the mismatch mostly to show that the v8 tb is not ideal when you want maximum flow. It simply won't flow what it is rated at. If you are worried about your bottom end you are not looking for more flow.

If you want to get maximum flow from the stock v8 tb then by all means open up the bores on you spare manifold, rework the runners to meet your requirements. Careful because you will lose even more bottom end if you shorten them.

If you have a manifold to play with do a search for "porting intake" or "gasket match" I could not find a thread that the pictures still worked on but you can learn a lot by reading. One of the most important things to do is to radius the area where the injector sprays into the manifold. some manifolds have some casting metal left that breaks up the spray pattern. removing this will give better performance and mileage. When I did this I also replaced my injectors with the 4 hole injectors form 5-O motorsports. I managed to improve my gas mileage by about 3 mpg Highway.

Just a note on "gasket matching." If you are not going to do the heads you may do more harm than good by making the manifold ports larger than the ports in the head. Air can flow nicely from a small hole into a large hole but not the other way around.

From my experience I disagree with N56629. I only had positive results from gasket matching my manifold and not doing the heads.

XMR, you could be right, that air may just love slamming into the edges of the head and creating lots of turbulance. Why even worry about getting the gasket lined up after matching? I can't see what difference it makes whether the air flow is disrupted by the gasket or the head.

Oh well, gaskets are extremely difficult to lineup on the Magnum engines anyway because of the oval holes created by the bolts entering at an angle. You really need alignment pins. It used to be much easier on the LA engines when I would just made pins to align the gaskets and the holes in the heads.

All right, I've milled out the intake bores to 1.97", just slightly over the 50mm(1.9685") V8 TB. My question is this: I am getting conflicting opinions as to whether I should remove the plenum divider(manifold is from a 93 3.9) or just cut it back 1"-2". Also how much should I cut back the runners if at all, and if I do, should I "fill in" with aluminum/epoxy. By the way my truck is a 1997 3.9 RC Sport 2X4 manual tranny.
