Whats up i came across what i think is a great deal and want to know if there is trouble spots i need to look for. I found a 89 Dakota 8 foot bed V6 auto power everything with 37,000 orignal miles. It has little rust and some paint cancer on the hood and roof. It had 1 owner an older guy that died about 2 years ago. The truck also has brand new tires on it still have stickers on them. The truck has sat for 2 years. It has a gas line leak under the driverside door, but it did start right up and i was able to feed it alittle gas. Seems to idle fine (when it has gas) What i havent done is drive it around. The guy across the street said he put it in gear forward and reverse to move it a month ago.I figure i change all the fluids and fix the gas line it should be ready for a test drive. Now, what parts are known to go bad on this year dak?

thanx

Gas line leak under driver's side door is likely the fuel filter and one of the rubber hoses. A new one installed should take care of that. Unless it has the older type of mechanic fuel pump thats located on the left side of the front of the engine as you face the engine compartment. O2 sensors on these trucks should be replaced at 50,000 to 60,000 miles. If power falls off and gas mileage it could be the O2 sensor. Check all fan belts or serpentine belt lookat the underside of the belts for cracks, if so replace them.

A good idea would be a good idea to replace the distributor cap and rotor, spark plug wires and spark plugs.

92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.

no major problem areas,

but i would crawl under and check the brake lines, gas lines, frame and under body since its been setting for 2yrs,

the setting some times can be worse then if it was driven daily, espeically if it was driven in salt

Figure on replacing most of the rubber in the suspension (ball joints, tie rod ends, swaybar bushings, etc). Also, new shocks all around from sitting. Also, just to be safe, flush and change the fluid and filter on the transmission.
