The problem im having is with a 98 dakota sport 3.9.

When you first start it up in the morning it runs great. As soon as it reaches operating temp after driving for 3-5 min it starts knocking. The knocking will increase with the engine speed. It doesnt seem like it loses any power but the noise is horrible. I have tried new plugs and wires and nothing. I recently replaced the timing chain but it has started the knocking after that. I have no idea what to do now. It has been running like this for the past month or 2 and i cant take it anymore. Does anyone have any ideas on this or past experiences? Please help!!

The knocking is a result of oil starvation, probably after the timing chain install. Some metal is probably missing from a main or camshaft bearing. Change your oil immediately. Check for shavings in the oil filter. The knocking is a result of permanent damage, and it will only get worse with time and use. You can switch to a thicker 10W40 motor oil to bandaid the problem for a while, but the only way to get rid of the knock is a total engine rebuild. If you want the engine to last for a long while, you're going to have to baby it until you buy another truck or rebuild or replace the engine. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
