when I frst start the 3.9 v6 truck
tap tap slapping rocker I assume
just for 1 sec or 2 maybe a lifter sluggish
previous owner neglected the engine
low milage supposedly
what can I do to degunk it
some kind of additive I have marvel in there what I had around
is there a magic devarnisher trick

Do an engine flush. I had it done at pepboys. For $80 it includes a proline oil change (pepboys brand) - you can upgrade to name brand or synthetic for a cost. They run warm cleaning solution in oil filter port at 42PSI and vacuum it out pan.
Much faster way than using transmission fluid or marvel mystery oil.
removed alot of sludge from my 95 CC 4x4 - and I did do regular oil changes!
I do not know if anyone else has done this, I highly recommend it. I've mentioned this on several posts. Other shops may do this servie as well, call to inquire.
Also, as regular maintenance, I now use seamfoam (seafoamsales.com) at every oil change. One can goes along way. 1/3 can goes into air intake (via throttle body - removes buildup), 1/3 can in oil (keeps lifters from sticking) and 1/3 can in fuel tank (cleans injectors). Follow directions on can.

HAVE YOU TRIED CHEMTOOL...? ADD SOME TO THE OIL, RUN A LITTLE WHILE, THEN CHANGE THE OIL... DIRECTIONS ARE ON THE CAN. THE STUFF WILL TAKE PAINT OFF A CAR, IT HAS TO DO SOMETHING TO THE CRAP IN YOUR ENGINE... IT'S LIKIE $2.69 AT WAL-MART... CHEAP SOLUTION, POSSIBLE FIX... I PUT IT IN THE FUEL TANK AT EVERY OIL CHANGE... WON'T HURT THE O2 SENSOR'S EITHER, POOR SOME ON YOUR HANDS SEE HOW IT FEELS THEN THINK ABOUT WHAT IT WILL DO TO ALL THE BUILD UP IN THE MOTOR...
