I have a '96 Dakota 3.9 and I just had the waterpump replaced, new T-Stat (180) and the whole system flushed. I even checked the t-stat to see if it was plugged. It's running warmer now than before everything was replaced. Does anyone have some suggestions?

how much warmer are we talking?

Have you checked the coolant level? is it mixed properly? I recently replaced my a/c evaporator and replaced it with the 50/50 mix of antifreeze. I noticed my truck runs slightly hotter now than it did before replacing the evaporator. It's just the coolant mixture. I'm a little to lazy to drain some and fix it.

It's running between the middle to the max. before the work done it was between the low side to the middle. I checked the mix and it's 50/50.

you could pull the tstat and check it with a thermometer and a pot of water to make sure it is opening at 180 and not higher. i have seen some cheaper onesdo that kind of thing.

are you sure that you dont have an airlock in the block? i've seen it before where they develop a bubble of air in the water pump and the impeller pushes nothing. havent seen it on a dakota but i have seen it on other vehicles.

It's also possible that the replacement water pump has a reverse impeller. Some water pumps direct the flow backward instead of forward. The reverse pumps have an "R" stamped on the impeller. Whichever the case, always match the new one to the old one. If it's pumping the wrong direction, it can cause overheating.

my 98 3.9 was doing the same thing, i changed the water pump and thrmostat and flushed it myself. Make sure that u have the right temperature thermostat that ur chilton says, but then u maybe clogged up like i was so i went and had mine rotted out for 50$ and i havent had a problem since
