I just bought a 2001 3.9 Quad Cab. Drove it home 500 miles, have driven it all around for 4 days with no problem. I changed the oil last night and this morning it wouldn't crank. It just clicked like a dead battery even though the lights still came on. I jumped it and it would crank, but when I let off on the throttle it died. Took jumper off and it would still crank, but would die when I let off each time. Also, the first time, I had to push the throttle to get it to start. I don't believe I should have to do that.

tom have your battery load tested. a weak battery may start the truck but, it will cause some problems such as you mentioned.

daddio,
Thanks, I'll do that. The guy I bought it from removed a stereo system and installed another before I got it. I'm thinking there is something draining the battery slowly from this.

daddio,
You hit it. The battery was shot. Turns out it was the original from 2001. A new one took care of it. Thanks, TG

Hey daddio,
You did so well with the last problem, I've got another one for you. The righthand cruise control (Accel/Coast/Cancel) button is loose. There is a bolt behind the steering wheel in line with this item, but it's tight. Any idea how to tighten this up? Functionally,it still works. Lefthand side is ok.

Jennifer,
Look under the hood,on the right hand side, along the fender, you will see the power distribution box. There is a large bundle of wires all taped up that leads from the box back to the firewall.Where it goes under the w/w fluid jug there might be a corroded wire to the computer.Break open the bundle carefully and see if there is any green corrosion. It will be a thicker red wire,If there is you have to clean it and either solder it or reconnect it with an electrical connector, then tape it up real good to keep moisture out.

tomG, i don't think that bolt has anything to do with the cruise buttons.

jennifer, listen to 94 sport^ that splice will cause problems. i think it's one wire splicing into 4 .
