I need to know what to do on my stock V6 intake manifold to mildly modify it. I have a '98 Dakota 4X4, and I want to have good torque to tow stuff with. Do I trim off the center divider wall all the way down to the TB port? I've read that I need to grind the runners down to 14". How do you measure this? Do I cut the web where the throttle body goes? Thanks for your help. Relf.

Shortening the runners will most likely reduce your bottom end, not increase it. You could try a tb mod first. I would suggest a cam but I don't know what would work best for towing. The Superchips tuner has a towing program that should really help. I think that is available for your truck. Different gears is also a great way to go when using the truck to tow and getting maximum torque down where you need it.

I trimmed the runners 1/2 inch. I did noticed a low end loss but i forgot to port match. Later the belly pan went out again so i port matched, cleaned up all sharp edges including the area by the TB and added a plate to reduce the plenium area.
On some modles the center divider isnt even there. Mine for instances didnt even have it.

I gained my low end back + some from the port match, recieved increased throttle response and added some nice upper end highway cruising power.

i see that hughesengines fills theirs in underneath the topside with some epoxy, and i've heard of this being done with jb weld and pieces of aluminum.

just looking, you say you added a plate, did you put this on top of the belly pan (bottom of manifold), or upside down from the top of the manifold?

I took some aluminum i bought at a recycled metal place.
I then had a shop weld it in for me and the metal bent to go all the way up to the tb ports.
I had it sit right where the runners stop extruding into the plenium area.
It wasnt welded to the pan it was welded to the manifold itself.

Oh if theres a next time...Im gonna add a pyrimid type section and attach it to the belly pan to help rushing air be diverted out to the front and back of manifold.
