We have been running into a lot of bad idle air
control solonoids from auto zone

reading 30 steps but they are closed causing
loading up and missing when starting cold or
hot and eradic idle stalling when shifting from
drive nutral reverse

If you replaced one with an autozone replacement
and are having these probs take it back the IAC
should be sitting at 12 to 15 steps warm at idle
not 30

This tells the comp its open but its not

Thanks, Larry. Wonder if they've gone cheaper than cheap on everything lately.

In my Daytona, I replaced the factory alternator at 130K with a rebuilt Duralast. It went another 110K miles, then the bearings went. Since then I have replaced it under warranty 3 times in 6 months - they have overheated with noisy bearings at 200 miles, 75 miles, and right out of the box. They told me that the bearings aren't replaced on these rebuilds, only the diodes and brushes. They also recommend upgrading for $30 to the Duralast Gold, which is all brand-new, under the next warranty replacement.

How often should an IAC be replaced. I've got 110K on my 99 SLT and I've never replaced it. Or how often should it be cleaned?

Usually they never fail, and maybe need cleaning every 50K to 100K miles, depending on your driving and maintenance.
