did you know that of the new cars out the 3.9 dakota(especially 4x4 CC or QC) is like one of the slowest new vehicles avalible. Almost nothing has worse acceleration. just the hummer and maybe some kias or 4cyl suvs. basically the V6 dak is one of the slowest car/trucks avalable.
nothing has worse 0-60 times and the 1/4 miles are plain weak. dodge sux

*disclaimer: all of you guys and gals that are annoyed at my constant complaining can go suck on a ricers tailpipe while its running a 17 second 1/4 mile.

Mine is probally the fastest vehical I ever owned, well... ok, maybe second fastest... lets run it down.

1) 1977 Chevrolet Malibu w/305 V8. 0-60? Yeah, in a quarter mile and half a tank of gas!

2) 1986 Chevrolet Cavalier. Oh, fun car to drive with the 4-speed. 0-60? A 1/4 mile will get it to aout 65... Tops out at 80!

3) 1980 Chevrolet 1/2 ton w/305 V-8. 0-60? Don't know, but it was -fast-. Of course, -fast- cost me about $3,000 in a rebuild engine, tranny, and dual exhausts dumped through high-flow mufflers and no emmissions whatsoever. Not to mention the fact that it wasn't reliable at all. First time I drove it, it blew a gasket and dumped all the oil out the back of the intake. After that, had to put a new front end on it, then the radiator detonated on the highway (that was fun), and the tranny blew out twice...

4) 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier. Ok car I guess, except for the computer trouble, oil leaks, tranny not shifting into high-gear, rattles, clunks, and the fact it ate 2-quarts of oil (burned) between oil changes at 50,000 miles. 0-60? It'll do it, but it was slower than the '86 Cavalier... top speed? 100mph and a terrible lot of blue smoke.

5) 2000 Dodge Dakota 5-speed 3.9L. Probally the lowest maintance vehical I've owned to date. Something about buying it with 45 miles on it. -Definatly faster than the Saturn and S-10 I looked at, slower than the Accord V6, but felt more solid. Let's not forget it was about 5 grand -less- than the Accord. Slow? Not by any means. 0-60? Not offically checked yet, but estimates from friends place it in the low 17s. Top speed? Heck if I know, hit 110 and decided that it was a -wee- bit faster than I wanted to go. Cost of mods so far? $250, if you don't count the purchase of the Dremel. Heh, I squeeked the rear tire shifting into 3rd yesterday. Fun fun!

Man if you wanted to go so fast you could have gotten a car instead of a dakota which is a truck that has a bed that is made for putting stuff in just in case you did not know why don't you take a look at how much a 3.9 can pull compared to other truck engines I have pulled a 6200 pound boat and trailer with my 97 cc 3.9 2wd with little problem. Trucks are made to be trucks unless you get a R/T thats why their is a aftermarket to make your truck faster.

I dont share your pain either, I just beat an R/T from a roll last night!!!
Not by much and only for 1/8 or less but I deffinantly pulled a door and fender on him when I hit second, then didnt go much after that.
Pulled over and talked to him, blew his mind I was a V6er.
We're meeting at the track next month to make it official.

that was on the juice 75 shot and my newly modified intake which made a BIG difference in mid to upper HP especially with the juice.

I know your not going to believe this but its true, I still have my 8 1/4 3.55 open.
The 8 3/4 I bought has a pretty bad crack which I didnt think was so bad so I have the rear thing on hold, so while it was on hold I got to impatient and wanted to see how the little green Dak feels now with the NX and mods so I put the bed back on.

I think I have found another rear so hopefully I'll have that in soon.
I dont see how Intense's been doing so well so long with an open rear, I have NO traction what so ever.
I leave, off the bottle (which I still spin pretty bad) and as soon as I stop spinning from NA, I hit the bottle and it starts spining again so bad I have to back pedel it.
He must have NOS single track racing down to a science!!

I forget Alex, do you have a 6 or 8?
Anyway both benifit from some massaging.
See our intakes were designed for torque not horse power so if you grind down the runners (this is looking into the intake from underneith with the plenum pan off) flush (be carefull not to go to far), mill down the divider about an inch or so and open up the TB ports to 2" all the way down (some will not agree with that one)you will open up alot of mid and upper end horse power but some engines have been know to loose substantial torque from doing this.

Good luck, Scott

Ooohhh.... Yeah, I used to have a 6, but I sold it to get my 4.7 sport.

I was going to do that to my intake, but the machinist buddy of mine said it would lose too much bottom end to be any good on the street. We stopped with the port match for the V-8 TB and ground down the divider a bit.

Have you seen that article that was in Mopar Muscle a LONG time ago where they did all these mods to a 93 Short Bed Dakota and eventually got it into the 15-teens naturally aspirated? Is that what you're working from? They did all that to their intake plus they filled in some of the voids with aluminum panels to reduce the plenum volume. If you haven't seen the article, I can scan it and forward it.

Ok black your even getting on my nerves now and that aint easy.

Do you care to know how much less I have in my truck than an R/T?

I can afford a couple of R/T's if I wanted to, I even drove a couple.
But you wanna know something, I buy things to modify and make better with my own two hands, I dont want something that Dodge gave there best effort at because I can make half as much faster, and I did!

I do wish you would go find what is is your looking for because your complaining is really getting to me.

Just out curiosity, did you test drive your POS before you bought it, and if so why in the hell did you end up buying it?
Are you the type who still blames your failures on something your mom did to you when you were like 3?
I'm guessing yes.

If you would like go buy an R/T, even do a few mods then come to see me and after I show you my tail lights maybe you will realize that for any and every fast vehicle theres a faster one.
Please stop whining and get on with life or go away.

Thank you, Scott

Just a comparison:

Supercharger = $2680-$3200

Cam + Head work + Intake work + TB + Cold Air Kit + Headers + Exhaust + general mods = $2200.

Supercharger = 35-40% increase
Other mods = 15-25% on the average (depending on what combination)

It all depends on what you want and what your budget is.

"intense=broke"

that's okay bernd... i have displacement in a bottle.

fazdak,
i have always had a dodge (or something close to it). my first car was a 82 lebaron (barf...vomit, vomit), second was a shelby charger, and then my dak. when i saw the new body style (i think i was like 15 or 16) i knew i have to get one. before all or those chebbies we had dodge's. our best vehicle: 1985 Dodge B150 Van... 295,000 miles and original 318 2 bbl, dynomax headers, true duel exhaust, flowmasters, and exhaust dumped infront of each back tire. scariest sounding van ever! that baby barks the 30" allterrains even though it has 2.73 gears and we still drive this sucker to day. it's been airborne at least once! my brother has also had a 87 lebaron, my dad a 87 omni (i could pick it's rearend up off of the ground), my brother also had a 91 talon (dodge ealge chrysler...good enough).... but between my mom and dad...they have had about 10 camaros throughout their lifes.

Cool nuf, just wonderin where your Mopar love came from.
I have a pict of me as a baby sitting between the R/T scoops of a brand new Coronet R/T, that was my dads second Mopar, first was a 66 273/275hp Barracuda, it was a rare one he whishes he kept, had a solid lifter cam and a holley straight from the factory!! he says it was a blast!

I respect your love of Mopar turbo front drivers, I had a 94 Colt turbo, it weighed 1800 with me in it!! I put a worked turbo from kenetics on it and a modified intercooler, it was a blast and it really suprised alot of 5.0's in its time.
Untill we went head on with a drunk driver at 60mph, that wasnt pretty!!
