Hi!

I have a 1996 Dak SLT Ext Cab. 2WD. I have a problem that seems to happen when I run the AC. I get a puddle of water on the passenger side floor mat. It seems to be coming from under the rounded part under the dash area. Is this a leak in the condensor of the AC? I have a Haynes manual.

Thanks!

Scott: sounds like it's a plugged a/c drain spout, you might wanna do a search for other 96's, i have a 2000 so mine is different but from what you explained it sounds like that.

The drain is in the passenger side firfewall sticking out from the evaporator case. You can see it sticking out if you look under the a little toward the drivers side and down a little behind the oil filter.

You maybe able to reach it from under the truck. It's a bit of a pain to remove the entire evaporator case but doable. I've had mine out a couple times and can get it out and back in in about an hour including the glovebox, ash tray and drivers side dash.

Oh yeah, I have a 95.

I have a 1996 Dakota SLT extended cab 4x4 which has a similar sounding water leak. It began suddenly with a large puddle of clean water in the passenger side foot well completely soaking the carpet. There does not appear to be any identifiable water marks indicating water running down the firewall. It is not coolant. Could it be flowing in the air intake for the heater? I cleared the body drains from the cowling area and water tested okay but it reocurred. It seems like it happens after a heavy rain but I can't determine where it is entering the cab.

The rubber seal around the under hood in ok shape?
You said you cleaned it so leafs wouldn't be the issue. Windshield rubber seal look ok too?

You mentioned it only happens when it rains?
Is that sitting or driving?

The puddle seems to appear when the cars sits for awhile. After I cleaned out the leaves and debris from the cowling and air intake areas I ran a hose over the entire truck and ran it through the car wash with the carpet and passenger seat removed. It did not leak anywhere that I could see. After reinstalling the carpet and seat and it sat for two days I noticed the puddle reappeared on the passenger side only. It is not just a little damp but a rather large puddle. I have to dry it out with a towel which I have to wring out several times to get most of the water out. Very frustrating. The water began to appear after I had a new water pump installed and a new radiator but the leaking water is not coolant; it is clear fresh water. What is the approximate diameter and lenght of the AC condenser drain hose? I can't seem to find it.
