i forgot, i did do the injector syc and set it to approx plus 3, that helped alot with power and did bring my mileage up, but it still sucks at 70-75. at 60-65 i can pull 19-20. but highway speeds are never that slow. i plan to do some advanced work to my exhaust maybe bring my back pressure back up a bit, i think its a little too open (too loud for sure). i also want to do an open style element but dont want to pay k&n prices...anybody have an alternative round style that fits for relatively cheap?

The K&N is well worth the money. It'll out last your truck unless you drive in very very dirty conditions.

You can buy the edelbrock ones for cheap. One came with my 10" air hat and they do sell them separately.

I would still recommend K&N thought.

I would agree with the "happy" sentiment. My 88 sat for almost two years, I've nursed it back to life and commuting with a lot of short trips around town and 20mi each way on the free way mine keeps going up! My last three tanks have been 16.6, 17.1, and 17.6.

My 88 is completely stock and thanks to my mother (former owner) is actually sporting under sized tires 225/75's(yuck I know).

Any one tried tornado air? They even have an application for mine and their claims are pretty good 10-25% increase in fuel economy for only $69.95. I'm thinking about getting one. www.tornadoair.com if you want to check it out. Also, a lot of you say you have MSD wires, I'm wondering has anyone installed an MSD system? The 88 came stock with only 125hp and I need anything I can do to get more! I plan to buy the K&N filter (I'd like to get the CAI but can't find an application for my year), 180 deg thermostat, new radiator (I'm having temp problems) and new o2 sensor and Idle speed controler.

Any suggestions?

Oh and I'm running Bosch Platinum 4 plugs, Mopar Wires, and plan to upgrade to 30x9.50's next month. My truck is a 4x4 with a Auto Trans (3 speed).

why is it that i think you dont know how to divide? there has not been a dakota in the history of this forum that has pulled that kind of mileage. unless you were being towed by a tow truck for quite some time...lol

Wow, that wasn't very nice. No, i do know how to divide. 32 MPG was my high point, the average was 28.94. The one part of the trip i did 314.1 miles on 9.872 gallons of gas. You do the math, it comes out to 31.82 MPG.

Last three tanks, each carefully topped off, gave me 18-19mpg.

5.2 with a few mods.

Damn, wish I could get mpgs like that. I get 12 in town, maybe 17 on the road. K & N airfilter is the only thing I've put in. Might be my lead foot, but still. I have a '94 2wd slt LB with a 22 gallon tank. I think my next one will be a V8 and a 4x4, at least I'll have power to justify the mpgs.

It's a standard(won't drive anything else). As for mods, not too many. homebrew/K&N intake, V8 TB, relocated AIT with 20k resistance added(computer thinks its about 40-50 degrees fahrenheit), TPS adjustment, MSD Super conductor wires(8.5mm), Accel cap and rotor(brass), Bosch 2+ plats, hi-flow cat, and flowmaster 40 (more to come as I get more cash). If I want to use the new available HP, I only get MAYBE 12-14 city, but if i keep it around the speed limit i get 19-21 city. Keep in mind that that 32 MPG was a 400+ mile stretch of FLAT highway with no hills and very little curves, but sh*t 32 MPG is still 32 MPG.
