I have a chance to buy a 93 3.9L Dakota for my son that has 145,000 miles on it. Was wondering how much longer this engine will make it? Seems to drive and ride great still, im just concerned with my sons heavy right foot. The person who owned it before was an older guy who took real good care of it. I was told this engine is nothing but a chopped 318 does that hold the truth? Will it take the stomp light romps? Thanks Gary.

I had a 93 v6 4x4 for 10 years. When I sold it. I had 180,000 miles on it. Still running strong. I sold it to a friend and he has had it for about 1 year. Don't know how many miles are on it now. But he drives it every day. Use Max life oil and change it on time. Should last to 200,000 at least.

p.s. All I replaced on it was the fuel pump and water pump. Other than general mant…

318 - 2 cyls yes that is exactly what it is and
they are very tough little motors and will take
a lot of abuse

Just be sure the oil is changed when recomended
trans fluid and filter
Amsoil universal
Red line
or ATF +3 or +4 only

I have seen these motors with 300 350,000 miles
and still running great

The only thing that may happen is the timming
chain may jump at high miles than just replace
with a new chain and gears and the tensioner from
mopar

That would be about all that would go wrong
internaly with a high mileage motor you may have
some sensors go bad but those you can easily
replace yourself

145,000 its just broke in go for it they are very
reliable trucks
