 Subject: gas mileage on the v6 ext cab

I am 17 years old and I am looking for a good ext cab, and i thought that a dakota 1998 or up to a 2000 model would be best for me. I am looking to pull a 19ft fish and ski and just haul stuf around. I would like to know what the gas mileage is on these things.are they hogs?
please reply ASAP!!!

you'll find varying reports of milage even from the same make/model dakota on here.
I have a 95 CC 4x4 auto with 3.9L V6. I get 17-18 combined city/highway (atlanta rush hour traffic) and up to 25 depending on speed on the highway. In 4wheel, i get about 14-15 mpg. Towing I've gotten as low as 10, usualy 12-14. I'm talking towing a 6'x12' uhaul weighing around 3500 - 4000 lbs. I rarely tow, v6 is fine for me.
I have a friend who has a 2003 QC 4x4 auto with 4.7L v8 and he gets 12-14 mpg city.
It would be nice to have the v8 power and if you tow alot (almost daily) I think you'd appreciate the V8 more than the V6.

I got a 99 club cab it gets 12-13 city and at best 19 highway. I've done everything to maximum mileage.
I'm jealous at your age your buying a truck and got some toys to haul around behind it too.

I have a 2000 3.9L 5spd cc 2wd and i get about 18-20
mpg on average never done any towing with it though

I have a 2000, club, auto, 3.9, 2X4-
-over 20 mph Mpls/St Paul, MN driving
-pulling a 2 place covered snowmobile trailer ( 1800 lbs) around 14 mph
-pulls the weight pretty good, no complains

1992 Dakota Club Cab 4WD 4-speed auto 3.9L V-6, I get 17 mpg city and 20-21 mpg highway, at 142K miles, all stock. Haven't towed yet, or used 4WD enough to say what that does to it.

I have a 95 ext V6. I get 16 city, 20 highway. The trucks are better known for lengevity than they are for fuel efficiency - as is the case with trucks in general.

I got a 99 3.9 4x4 and luck to 15MPG. and that is with a CAI, F&B TB, and a superchip.

I've seen a lot of people say they get 20+ miles in the Dakota. I've got a 95 Dakota 3.9l v6 and I'm lucky to get 16.9 mpg hwy. Highest was 16.889 so I'm rounding up, and then even luckier to get 12-13 mpg city. How are yal getting such good mileage?

2000 Dakota 3.9 Club Cab 2wd with about 130000
miles. I am averaging about 16.5 miles (30% highway
70% city). On trips on the highway I do not see
dramatic improvement in mileage.
