They don't make turbo kits for Dakotas...you gotta get a turbo that will spool up properly with a 3.9L and custom fabricate everything to make it work.

Wow $5800 total to get it in that truck. I know nothing of turbos and how much of an increase in peformance you get but if they are like superchargers, you figure 35%-45% gain with 7 pounds of boost? That's alot of cash for that power. I hope smog checks aren't an issue for you either. I've admired the ability of people in little K-cars with turbos at the track to change out a simple T-fitting and pick up a speed increase.

Where do you get "$5800?" He said the kit cost $4000, but you could probably bargin hunt for the individual parts and get the cost down to $1800.

I wonder if for the oil return line, rather than running it back to the valve cover, could you have it run to a remote oil filter setup? Any comments?

You really dont want the return line to the valve cover unless for soem odd reason the turbo is mounted higher then the valve cover... Gravity is your friend. Run the return line to the timing cover or oil pan.

$5800 my mistake, I was scaning the article and saw two figures that added up to this. Suprababe doesn't list her cost another guy says $4000 for his kit. $4000 for a measley 50-100 horses, not worth it to me.

it's all mongrels truck, parts and work.. suprababe was hosting the pix for him.
he's been saving that turbo kit he got from STS for a while and looks like he just got it on. He bought a "universal" type from them since they dont have anything for the dakota.
$4000 for 100 horses on tap.. all the time. Nitrous bottles go empty, superchargers just dont make the power on a V6 and strokers cost $$$$

So what you all are saying is go with a turbo and not a supercharger? Would a supercharger be better for low end then a turbo since with a turbo there would be some lagging?

with the proper turbo, there will be no lag... lag is for diesels.
with my experiences of having both a supercharger on my V6 and a turbo, i'd go for a turbo any day over the s/c
