Message:
I know the DynaMax 17748 is 2.5 in and 2.5 out. I have 2.5 inch tail pipe and 2.5 inch pipe from the Cat. Is the Muffler flaired or do I need to buy a muffler with 2.75 in and out. I don't want to take the existing muffler off to measure until I'm ready to change it.

Yeah, I just thought if the in and out were exactly 2.5 and the other pipes were exactly 2.5 it won't slip in. Thanks

Man, sure is a lot of attitude on this board, and not much discriptive help....

I crawled under my 98' today to scope out the muffler situation. Here is what is going on. The stock exhaust pipe OUTER diameter before the muffler is 2.5 inches. The stock muffler, and I assume aftermarket as well, probably has a 2.5 or slightly larger INNER diameter and it slips right over the exhaust pipe and is held in place with an exhaust clamp that is also a hanger. The exact same thing is happening at the muffler exit. It sounds like all we have to do it unbolt the stock muffler and slide in the replacement. Good luck with the rusted clamp bolts. Use lots of penetrant before starting that job.
