I think there's something in the wiring that causes the radio to shut off if it starts to overload or something...I never had the problem with my stock radio but I put in Pioneer speakers and a Sony Xplod headunit and now if I turn the volume up too high, as soon as the bass hits too hard, the headunit shuts off and kicks back on. It does it every time the bass hits really hard. This is just with 3-way front, 2-way rear speakers...no sub(s) or anything fancy.

The Dodge radios tend to have broken solder joints in the radios themselves, usually the large joints on the left side of the front board that has the display on it. If you know someone with a little electronics knowledge it is fairly easy to spot once you have the radio apart. Once they are soldered everything should work fine.
